New support for Lay Preacher development
Decisions at URC General Assembly 2006 mean that there will be new arrangements to support the development of lay preachers and worship leaders
  • Assembly is to have a Leadership in Worship Committee to replace the 'Lay Preaching Support Sub-Committee'. The reasons: a) to support Lay Preachers; b) to support other lay people involved in leading worship; c) to encourage members of congregations to become more involved in leading worship
  • District Councils will no longer have a place in the URC structure.
  • One of the new Synod functions will be "to accredit and provide support and training for lay preachers and worship leaders"
Yorkshire Synod is conducting a process of consultation from October to March about how to implement the new structures of support for local church work. For more about the consultation process see the Synod Good News page.
Lay Development Fund
in 2006 to help with costs of further study
Yorkshire Synod started a
Lay Development Fund

URC members may apply through their church
for grants up to half the cost of attending
a training event or short course,
up to a limit of £50.
Not more than three per church in the year,
so as to give more churches a chance.
