Adult users are :- Arthritis Care , Bible Study Groups , Christ Church Halton Guild , Circuit Office , Concordia , Dysphasia Support , Jazzercise , Luncheon Club , Open House , Pastoral Carers , and Townswomen's Guild
To go direct to one of the groups above click on its name . In many cases clicking on a logo or photo in an entry will take you to the website of the parent organisation. To return to Christ Church homepage click on our logo above.
Many other groups use the premises irregularly for concerts, meetings, training courses etc and councillors hold surgeries/clinics here and Christ Church is occasionally the venue for Halton Forum etc. It is also often, of course, the venue for large services, training, meetings and conferences of both parent denominations. If details of your group are missing or need amending please email me .
DIRECTIONS : If you are holding a meeting at Christ Church and some attendees are unfamiliar with the location the directions are in the ccdirections.pdf (Adobe Acrobat file) immediately below.

We meet at 10.30am every Sunday except the first in the month, when we meet altogether for a family service.
All children are welcome from the age of 3 to 16. Young people of 16 or over may choose to remain with their friends in the upper group or stay in church with the rest of the congregation.
We leave the main service at around 10:50am and the classes last for about 40 minutes. We work from a Christian magazine called Roots and enjoy many activities including arts and crafts, drama, music, games and cooking. A theme is set for each week based on a Bible reading, but given a modern twist so the children can understand. This gives the children a good foundation to learn about the Bible and teachings of Jesus.

God loves me! (us) - one outcome of our first Messy Church
|
What is Messy Church? I hear you ask. Well basically it is as the name suggests - it is lots of friendly people making a mess!
It is on the second Saturday of every month from 2-4pm. Children and their parents are invited to join us at Christ Church for an hour of different craft activities all based around a particular theme, followed by some lively songs and even a puppet show! The puppets tell us more about the theme of the day by performing a Bible story, then we pray and eat some tasty food together and have a good natter before we head for home.
Messy Church costs just £1 per child and is the Saturday event that every family should have the chance to experience. Want to see church as you've never seen it before? Then see you soon at Messy Church! By the way, Messy Church isn't something we have done 'out of the blue' - it really works in churches all over the country (there are at least 20 Messy Churches just in Yorkshire that we know about, including St Mary's Whitkirk just up the road) and there's a Messy Church website where you can find out all about it.
Messy Church does mean a lot of work (at each one there are about 20 plus volunteers, aged from 13 to 70 plus, involved doing all kinds of things - besides at least one parent, grandparent etc for each family) but it is worth it and a lot of fun!
NB: Our next Messy Church is Saturday 14th August 2010 , with the theme of Clowns (complete with a bouncy castle)
This will be Matt Wright's last Messy Church before his wedding and moving south - do join us
If you want see reports of how we got on with our first four occasions with the collages and banner we made plus details of our programme up to Christmas - look at our News & Events page!
For more details contact Matt Wright , Lay Worker or phone him on 0759367053.

A Pastoral Carer looks after a small group of people, visiting them regularly and distributing Contact (the monthly magazine of Christ Church and Colton Methodist Church). He or she will also act as a link, informing the Minister in case of illness or other problems. The Pastoral Carers meet together about three times a year to share concerns. If you wish to become a Pastoral Carer, be included on the pastoral register, or have a particular pastoral problem, please contact Christine Townsend or our Minister (see our homepage).

Guild Co-Presidents at the start of 50th Anniversary year
|
The Wesley Guild is an organisation, within the Methodist Church, which caters for men and women of all ages to meet, share their faith, look at the issues and needs of the local community and the wider world, enjoy cultural and artistic interests and participate in social activities.
The Guild does not have a membership as such. You are welcome to come as and when you are able, or when a particular topic or speaker is of interest to you. At Halton, the Guild meets on Tuesday evenings at 8 o’clock, from September to Easter, and less frequently during the summer for social activities and fund-raising events. The current winter session of the Guild is over but we do have a summer programme.
This started with a Coffee Evening on Tuesday, 27th April with Peter and Elizabeth Grubb showing slides of their holiday in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador (scheduled much earlier in the year but cancelled due to severe weather).
The very successful Guild Afternoon Concert & Tea on Saturday 8th May is reported elsewhere (News & events page) The Plant Sale was held on Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd May and raised £1700 (£850 each for Bangladesh - Commitment for Life and the Nigeria Health Care Project).
Tuesday 25th May we held our second Coffee Evening when Rev. Marlene Wilkinson, one of our former ministers, showed slides and information on the work she had been doing in Tonga.
The Programme for the next session will be published in a week or so and will be posted here. Further information on the Guild can be obtained from: Joint Presidents Peter Grubb (Tel: 2646046) Sheila Staveley (Tel: 2602553) Secretary Barbara Harris (Tel: 2934995)

Rainbows have fun! They take part in activities as part of our program, which is called the ‘Rainbow Jigsaw’. Our meetings are full of games and activities that provide opportunities for Rainbows to think for themselves, and help to make decisions about different things the unit does.
Everything the Rainbows do helps them to develop, giving them an opportunity to look, learn, laugh and love. Rainbows are the youngest members of Girlguiding UK , starting once they reach the age of 5 and can then move on to Brownies at the age of seven. The Unit meets each Thursday in term time from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Further details please contact Kathryn Glasby , Rainbow Guider (0113 264 0176).

For those children who need more physical activities we have climbing and balancing equipment, tunnels and lots of singing and dancing.

Our club was called the W.R.V.S. Halton Luncheon Club . It had been around for 28 years (or more) on 5 May 2010. Barbara, the club organiser, celebrated her 80th birthday in March 2010 and decided that she and her stalwart assistant Sheila should retire. They are now enjoying a chance to relax more on Thursdays! Christ Church wishes them both well.
Christ Church, however, is carrying on the good work started by Barbara and her colleagues and has assumed responsibility for the Club. The team is now led by Barrie Rudge.
The club offers a good nourishing meal of home made soup, a main course and a pudding for £2.30, plus 10p for a cup of coffee or tea, which is optional. There is no joining fee or weekly subs, but we do have a raffle, prizes mostly supplied by our members. There is a pantomime trip and a meal afterwards usually in January or February and if there is anything suitable a further trip through the year. Maundy Thursday is celebrated with chocolate and we do have a Christmas Lunch. Our members come from Halton, Whitkirk and Crossgates. We are a happy band and in spite of the hard work, our volunteers enjoy Thursdays as much as the members. We are always happy to see new members and Barrie can be contacted on Leeds 2946843.

The Main Hall is very popular with local parents for young children’s birthday parties, and there are other rooms of various sizes available both for regular or one off events. 3. Lounge (singly)
4. Church + hall

. Church + hall + lounge
Ground floor The building is fully accessible on the ground floor, with an induction loop system in the worship area, hall and coffee lounge. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor.

The creche is soundproofed, wired for sound and overlooking the worship area which enables anyone who needs to leave worship with a small child to continue to take part.
