We meet at 10.30am every Sunday except the first in the month, when we meet altogether for a family service. All children are welcome from the age of 3 to 16. Young people of 16 or over may choose to remain with their friends in the upper group or stay in church with the rest of the congregation.

We leave the main service at around 10:50am and the classes last for about 40 minutes. We work from a Christian magazine called Roots and enjoy many activities including arts and crafts, drama, music, games and cooking. A theme is set for each week based on a Bible reading, but given a modern twist so the children can understand. This gives the children a good foundation to learn about the Bible and teachings of Jesus.

This group meets from 7:00 to 8:00pm in the coffee Lounge on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. It is made up of young people (ages 12-17) who have Christ Church connections, and looks at all aspects of everyday life and current events from a Christian perspective.

It provides a time and place for discussion, sharing views and opinions about matters that affect us as individuals, as a group, as a Church and in the wider community.

A warm welcome is extended to all our young people to join this small but very enthusiastic group.
For more information contact Peter Young (0113 264 7162)
The Church hosts Zero plus which is a mixed group of parents, carers, grandparents, babies and toddlers from birth to nursery age.

They meet during term time on Tuesday morning from 9:15am until 11.00am. Coffee and chat are offered for the adults, and toys, juice and biscuits for the children. The session always includes signing and playing musical instruments with the children.
Bible Study Groups
The Monday Bible study group meets at Church weekly from 7.30pm to 8.30pm as announced in the Weekly Notices

The Thursday morning group meets in term time from 9:15am to 10:30am, studying the Bible, in particular as it relates to our lives today. There is a short prayer time and opportunity for fellowship.

Housegroup
Thursday evening housegroup meets alternative Thursdays throughout the year (in the odd weeks in the calendar), except during Lent (when most members attend Churches Together in Leeds 15 / One Voice groups). We study a variety of materials, which include Bible study, but also look at other faiths, current issues and the writings of contemporary church leaders and theologians. Membership is fluid so you attend as you wish and as you are able; all are welcome. The venue (homes of members), time and material being studied are usually included in the Weekly Notices .
Concordia at Harvest weekend 2007
Concordia at Harvest weekend 2007
Concordia is a group of people who enjoy singing the Lord's praise. Practices are at church on the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of each month, from 7:15pm to 8:15pm.

Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join us; just come along to one of the practice evenings.
A Pastoral Carer looks after a small group of people, visiting them regularly and distributing Contact (the monthly magazine of Christ Church and Colton Methodist Church). He or she will also act as a link, informing the Minister in case of illness or other problems.

The Pastoral Carers meet together about three times a year to share concerns. If you wish to become a Pastoral Carer, be included on the pastoral register, or have a particular pastoral problem, please contact Christine Townsend or our Minister (see our homepage).

Christ Church Halton Guild is a group of men and women of all ages, which meets at 8:00pm on Tuesday evenings from September to Easter.

On Guild evenings we have a wide range of activities-: we share our faith, look at the issues that face our community and the wider world, enjoy cultural and artistic interests and participate in social activities (events).

In the summer there are coffee evenings and outings arranged, as well as a special Guild Sunday (or weekend).

The Guild is open to all, whether you have Christ Church connections, belong to another church, another faith group or have 'no' affinities.

A brochure listing the session’s events is published towards the end of August each year. The 2008-2009 session plan is now available and can be downloaded as an Adobe Acrobat file (see the end of this entry below). Changes to the programme, if any, are notified via the Weekly Notices .

The welcome letter from the Joint Guild Presidents is as follows:-
Christ Church Halton Guild, 4th August 2008
Dear Friend,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 49th session of Christ Church Guild. Our opening night is Tuesday, 2nd September, when our speaker will be Rev. Trevor Bates. This will be followed by a buffet supper.

As you will see from the programme
[ see the file attached] , the Planning Committee has once again managed to arrange a wide variety of speakers and activities for this winter. There are some familiar names and some less familiar, but all promise to be interesting and thought provoking. Some will also be very funny! There are a number of 'home-grown' evenings too, which always prove popular.

The Guild is open to anyone of any age, male or female, churchgoer or not. You may come regularly or take us in 'small doses' as suits you. If you are a regular, we look forward to seeing you again. If you are thinking of coming for the first time you will be most welcome. If you are a bit shy, do introduce yourself to one of us beforehand either at church or by phoning (Peter - 2646046, Sheila - 2602553) and we will meet you at the door.

If you don't like walking out alone at night, we may be able to arrange a lift for you. (Call Joyce Rudge on 2945843)

Our charity fundraising will continue, focussing mainly on Commitment for Life - Bangladesh and the Nigeria Health Care Project , but also including those charities represented on our programme.

We are currently making plans to celebrate our 50th Anniversary during the 2009-2010 session. We'll let you know about special events in plenty of time. If you know of anyone who has had a connection with the Guild in the past 50 years, do tell us so we can add their names to our 'guest list'.

Hoping to see you on 2nd September!

Yours, Sheila Staveley & Peter Grubb

The Townswomen’s Guild meets every second Monday in the month between 2:00 and 4:00pm. We have speakers entertaining us with a variety of subjects.

We arrange outings, visits to the theatre, coffee morning’s in members’ gardens and celebrate the Guild birthday by going out for a meal. At the end of each meeting we have a welcome cup of tea and enjoy a chat with fellow members. New members are always welcome.

Brownies is for girls 7 - 10 years old, meeting on Thursday evenings during term time, from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

The meetings include a varied programme of crafts, activities, games and mostly fun! It gives girls the opportunity of working together and learning new things.

There is usually a waiting list, but if you need more details please call in and see Emma Radley or ring Alison on 0113 264 8894.

Rainbows have fun! They take part in activities as part of our program, which is called the ‘Rainbow Jigsaw’. Our meetings are full of games and activities that provide opportunities for Rainbows to think for themselves, and help to make decisions about different things the unit does.

Everything the Rainbows do helps them to develop, giving them an opportunity to look, learn, laugh and love.

Rainbows are the youngest members of Girlguiding UK , starting once they reach the age of 5 and can then move on to Brownies at the age of seven.
The Unit meets each Thursday in term time from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Further details please contact Kathryn Glasby , Rainbow Guider (0113 264 0176).
The pre-school is open Monday to Friday from 9.15 to 11.45am, and we offer places to children aged 2 to 4 years.

The group provides good quality care and education within a safe and stimulating environment. The aim of the group is to ensure that the children are happy and interested in learning through play, and to support their growing independence.

We have lots of exciting activities for the children to try like cutting cooked spaghetti, handling play dough, glop and shaving foam as well as more traditional activities like books, jigsaws and the home corner. For those children who need more physical activities we have climbing and balancing equipment, tunnels and lots of singing and dancing.

We operate an ‘open door policy’ where anybody is welcome to call without an appointment. If you are interested to know more or would like simply to come and have a look around, please call in, ring the door bell twice on the main entrance . Alternatively, speak to Bev on 07745 437233.

The group is a non-profit making organisation with charitable status, Charity number 1039478.
The group meets at 2.00pm on the first Tuesday of every month.

It aims to help people of all ages who suffer from arthritis, giving practical help such as filling in forms, NHS problems or Social Services problems.

There are speakers and also coach trips using special built Social Services coaches and holidays can be arranged for branch members. The branch seeks to alleviate the loneliness, isolation, frustration and sometimes depression of people with arthritis, and empower them to cope with the difficulties of life.

Free transport can be arranged to the meetings, and further information can be obtained from either Sheila or Ron Sanders , 70 Templegate Avenue, LS15 0HH (0113 260 5193).
A new activity for men and women, meeting Wednesday afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30pm. This is an informal gathering for conversation, refreshments, an opportunity to read the morning papers, exchange books, and develop other social activities if desired.
Our club is called W.R.V.S. Halton Luncheon Club . We have been operating as such for 25 years on 5 May 2007 and hoping that this year we shall be celebrating our Silver Anniversary.

The club offers a good nourishing meal of home made soup, a main course and a pudding for £2.30, plus 10p for a cup of coffee or tea, which is optional. There is no joining fee or weekly subs, but we do have a raffle, prizes mostly supplied by our members.

There is a pantomime trip and a meal afterwards usually in January or February and if there is anything suitable a further trip through the year. Maundy Thursday is celebrated with chocolate and we do have a Christmas Lunch.

Our members come from Halton, Whitkirk and Crossgates. We are a happy band and in spite of the hard work, our volunteers enjoy Thursdays as much as the members. We are always happy to see new members and Barbara can be contacted on Leeds 2732949.
The Group meets every Monday 1.15 to 3.15pm and is run by the Stroke Association specifically for people experiencing communication difficulties following a stroke. Most are referred by their Speech Therapist, but friends, family or stroke survivors themselves are welcome.

The sessions involve quizzes, games, speakers, exercise and occasional outings. These activities are done in pairs, or with others sitting at the same table, or the whole group.

If you would like to know more about the groups,
please ring Jo Koszel on 0113 2044886.
The premises are used regularly by both church and community groups as shown above.

The hall is very popular with local parents for young children’s birthday parties, and there are other rooms of various sizes available both for regular or one off events. Our movable internal walls (on ground and first floors) afford great flexibility in size and areas available. The ground floor can be made into one, two or three areas in six different combinations i.e.
1. Church (singly)
2. Main hall (singly)
3. Lounge (singly)
4. Church + hall
5. Church + lounge
6. Church + hall + lounge

The building is fully accessible on the ground floor, with an induction loop system in the worship area, hall and coffee lounge. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor. On the first floor, reached by stairs, there are meeting rooms, toilets, a small kitchen and a creche with its own child sized toilets and shower unit. The creche is soundproofed, wired for sound and overlooking the worship area which enables anyone who needs to leave worship with a small child to continue to take part.

There are 25 car parking spaces at the rear and additional parking nearby if necessary (contact us for details). Directions to Christ Church are downloadable in the Introduction at the top of this page.

Room charges and capacity are as follows:
Church £17 an hour (seats 120)
Main Hall £16 an hour (seats 60)
Lounge £16 an hour (seats 30)
Meeting Room £9 an hour (seats 10)

Weddings and Funerals £55 for the Church
