Out with the old and in with the new as a new church and community centre takes shape at Meersbrook
The original church building dating back to 1892
In September 1999 it was declared structurally unsound and unsafe
In mid-February 2010 the scaffolders moved in to prepare the building for demolition
The bulldozer moved in and a few good swipes brought things tumbling down
The "tin chapel" adjoining the main building was soon reduced to rubble
The whole thing came down in about 30 minutes
The demolition team then turned its attention to the brick-built main building
Soon just the outer walls remained
Finally just two walls remain standing
Gateway to nowhere - demolition complete
April 2010 - work starts on the foundations of the new church
A giant Meccano set arrives on site, is bolted together and hoisted into place
One of the roof support beams is put together on the ground
The roof beam is lifted into place
The end of the support is eased into place before being bolted into position
The size and shape of the new building is now beginning to emerge
Another piece of the roof structure is bolted into place
